Memorial and Katy Surgical Specialists (formerly known as Memorial City Surgical Associates) has been in existence since 1971 and has always been in the forefront of the developing surgical arena. As General Surgeons, we perform surgery for thyroid/parathyroid gland disease, breast disease/breast cancer, gastrointestinal conditions, hernias, and skin/soft tissue lesions. We have extensive expertise in all intra-abdominal surgery.
We specialize in endocrine surgery, primarily thyroid and parathyroid disease. Between 2000 and 2009 we performed over 1,250 thyroid/parathyroid procedures. When needed for parathyroid surgery, we use intra-operative nuclear mapping to allow for a minimally invasive approach and intra-operative parathyroid hormone monitoring when needed to confirm results.
In the past six years, we have performed more than 4,000 procedures for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the breast. We work closely with Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Plastic Surgeons to provide comprehensive treatment for our patients. Recently, we have implemented the use of the Mammosite, a partial breast radiation catheter to enable certain patients to complete radiation therapy in one week versus six weeks.
We also specialize in colon surgery, including laparoscopic colon surgery. Since 2000, we have performed more than 2,000 colon and gastrointestinal surgeries. In the past five years, almost all of these surgeries have been performed using the laparoscopic approach. Surgeons in our group were among the very first to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomies in Texas. Currently, our surgeons were one of the first to perform single incision laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia operations.
The surgical treatment of hernias remains a mainstay of our practice. Over the last few years, we have incorporated laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repairs to our armamentarium. We have expertise in complex abdominal wall reconstruction with patients’ own tissue in the separation of components technique as well as experience with biological mesh buttressing.
